A few months ago, GPT-3 gained a new superpower: rhyming.
While there are many art forms these new powers unlock - poems, haikus, sonnets, song lyrics – we were tickled by the prospect of generating raps.
Just picture it: an AI buddy that could spit out personalized rap verses for your friends, help you brainstorm a new rap song, or even transform your emails into a sick flow.
Or I could rewrite the above and convert it into a nursery rhyme:
Corny? Yes.
But remarkable nonetheless. (There’s a human-made rhyme for ya!)
In a recent hackathon, we repurposed the code from our Character Jam project – a fun experience where you can chat with a custom character – to create something we're calling Rap Jam.
Now, we’re releasing it to our close friends and supporters to test and try out for yourself.
Think of it like Dall-E – but with way more swag.
Give it any prompt – Naruto, mitosis, Steph Curry, an homage to your latest Tinder match – and watch as the avatar spits a freestyle rap that is...delightfully weird.
And get this: it even illustrates its lyrics with images!
I explain more in the video here:
We had to tackle some pretty tricky technical challenges to make this work, like getting the avatar to stay on beat, flow more dynamically, and use more advanced rhymes. We’ve made progress, and the improvements are seriously entertaining:
We're also partnering with some local rappers to make sure the rapper's performance is top-notch. We'll even be adding more customization options, so you can create your own avatar and choose your own beat.
So what are you waiting for? Give it a try and show us what you've got!
Hint: You can see past raps that have been generated by clicking on the rapper icon in the top left corner.
